“You just know it’s gonna be a scorcher when you hear the cicadas in the morning.”
This piece was inspired by a conversation with my brother during the summer. While traveling overseas, he found himself missing the familiar sounds of home—the calls of parrots, the laughter of kookaburras, and the rhythmic hum of cicadas that fill the Australian summer air.
Our discussion highlighted how deeply sound connects us to place and memory. These natural rhythms are more than just background noise; they are an intrinsic part of our shared experience and sense of belonging. This work explores that connection, translating the essence of sound into visual form - layering pattern, movement, and texture to evoke the sensory imprint of home.
